Team spirit: SERVE

Bars and restaurants around the city will be a little emptier on Sunday as staff from over 30 establishments around the island converge on Jeanne-Mance Park to face off in the SERVE Bars and Restaurants Beach Volleyball Tournament.
Now in its seventh year, the event, which pits staffs from restaurants and watering holes against one another, is a fundraiser for the Sense Project, an initiative launched by the youth-focused NGO Head & Hands in the wake of the Charest government’s cuts to high school sex education programs in 2005. The folks from H&H want to ensure that secondary school students are taught about safer sex practices.
Admission is free, and proceeds from the concession stand, as well as a silent auction, will support the project.■
SERVE happens Sunday, July 29 at the volleyball courts at Jeanne-Mance Park, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., free.
