Summer’s when the art world takes its vacation, with many galleries shuttering their doors until September, but there’s still great stuff to be seen around town.
Osheaga Arts presents Music on Paper 3, an exhibition of show poster design including artwork from Andrew Vastagh, Two Arms Inc., Patent Pending, the Decoder Design Ring, Talkseek, Doe Eyed, Dan Stiles, Nate Duval, Shawn K Knight, Neal Williams & Landland. Galerie Trois Points also welcomes a new show on Thursday, Peinture extrême – Cadrer le tout, featuring extreme painting by Nicolas Fleming, Mathieu Grenier, Guillaume La Brie and Mathieu Lévesque, which will remain on display through August 17 and is presented as part of the summer-long extreme painting series at 20 galleries around the city. Kunst With Kameras: The History of Feminist Video is a day-long workshop on feminist video art from the 1970s to the present, exploring performance, appropriation, activism, documentary, narcissism, technology, porn and more. Tunnel Vision is an exhibition of portraits by James Bouthillier that study how people use space on the metro. At the vernissage July 5, there will also be metro-themed readings by Sarah Vresk and a video presentation by Patrick O’Connor, and beats from DJ Milton Clark and DSYFR.
