The first Pan American Tree Toss Competition made its debut over the weekend at Place Jacques Cartier in Old Montreal.
Presented by Igloofest and SapinMTL, in collaboration with the SDC Vieux-Montreal, the event featured a mix of Montreal locals and tourists — with appearances by a Montreal Canadiens fan favourite, right-winger Brendan Gallagher, and Infoman’s Jean-René Dufort — testing their tree-throwing abilities for a good cause.
Each participant paid $10 to register, and the proceeds have been donated to the planting of 375,000 tress in the Montreal area for the city’s 375th anniversary. This odd old German tradition drew a good crowd curious to see who can throw their tree the furthest, and how — check out their techniques in this photo gallery.
