Strange Froots

As part of Black History Month, House of Jazz hosts the launch of an autobiographical historical book by Doudou Boicel, Rising Sun: The True Story of Montreal’s First International Jazz & Blues Festival. 2060 Aylmer, 5 p.m., free

Free up your Nuit Blanche and take a tour of dozens of galleries and art spaces inside the Belgo Building TONIGHT. It’s the second edition of La Soirée Belgo (the first was in September), an opportunity to see a huge range of art for no dollars under one roof. 372 Ste-Catherine W., 5 p.m.

It’s the last weekend of Igloofest, and while Saturday’s line-up looks pretty tasty (Brodinski, Chocobeets etc), Modeselektor are in from Germany to do double duty tonight, headlining in their duo formation and playing an earlier set as Siriusmodeselektor, where they’re joined by Berlin DJ Siriusmo and VJ Pfadfinderei. (Also, tonight promises the best weather/temperature of the weekend, so there’s that.) Jacques Cartier Pier (Old Port), 7:30 p.m., $20/$25

The Fro Foundation’s Fro Festival launches tonight at the Corona Theatre with music by Strange Froots, Malika Tirolien and Fredy V, and a keynote speech by Rosa Clemente, an American community organizer, freelance journalist and hip hop activist who ran for Vice President under the Green Party banner in 2008. 2490 Notre-Dame W., 8 p.m., $12

The 100th episode of the podcast Go Plug Yourself with local comics Keith Heistermann and Walter Lyng unfolds live on stage at ComedyWorks tonight, with special guests including Mike Paterson and Leighland Beckman. Check ça man! 1238 Bishop, 8:30 p.m., $10

Datcha Thursdays is always a good bet for fresh beats, and tonight they’ve got some solid local talent behind the decks: Adam Feingold and Joe Toner. 98 Laurier W., 11 p.m.
