The team behind the periodic OldWIG Vintage Sale at the Bain Mathieu will be hanging up their fascinators after one last edition, opening tonight and running until Sunday. Montreal’s annual contemporary art fair Papier16 opens today, exhibiting works on paper from 38 exhibiting galleries from Montreal and across Canada. Hangar 16 (Old Port Clock Tower), 6 p.m., free

The Montreal Roller Derby season is in full swing, with a high energy matchup tonight as part of this weekend’s Beast of the East tournament, where we’ll see our own New Skids on the Block take on the Toronto All Stars at Arena St-Louis. 5633 St-Dominique, 7 p.m., $15/$10 in advance

If you’ve never had a chance to see Louisiana-bred art rock masters the Residents, you might want to take this opportunity to see their Shadowland show at la Tulipe. Their performance will be preceded by a screening of their film Theory of Obscurity. 4530 Papineau, 7 p.m., $35/$40

Montreal is saying goodbye to Prince in the only appropriate fashion: with Prince-themed dance parties. Tonight’s options are A Tribute to the Purple One with Jef E. Barbara, promising hits, B-sides, covers, songs he wrote for others, songs by his protégés and a new purple ’do for the occasion, at NDQ (32 Beaubien E., 10 p.m., free) and Purple Tears with DJs Honest Lake and Wants and Needs at Bar le Ritz PDB (179 Jean-Talon W., 11 p.m., $5/PWYC).
