POP Montreal’s open-air market, Marché des Possibles, returns for a second summer of weekend programming in Mile End with a launch party tonight featuring performances from Whip Cream, L.A. Foster, Papi Chulo, Isis Salam and Oonga. 5635 St-Dominique, 5:30–11 p.m., free

It’s already day three of the Montreal Folk Fest on the Canal, and this evening it gets going in earnest with artists playing on four stages at their outdoor site by the banks of the Lachine Canal — headlining tonight is husband-and-wife folk rock Whitehorse (aka Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland). Check the festival’s website for the full weekend schedule, including an all-star tribute to the Grateful Dead featuring the Barr Brothers, Colin Perry and Li’l Andy, among others. Tonight’s Suoni per il Popolo show at la Sala Rossa sees avant garde singer/songwriter Julia Holter perform in collaboration with experimental father-and-son composers Yoshi Wada and Tashi Wada, with free jazz openers Mette Rasmussen and Tashi Dorji. 4848 St-Laurent, 8 p.m., $24/$20 in advance

German digital hardcore band Atari Teenage Riot play Montreal for the first time in forever (with openers OSB, formerly 1-Speed Bike), playing as part of the hacking/reverse-engineering conference REcon. Artbeat Montreal: The Rebirth marks the fifth anniversary of the “piu piu” music collective, with music by Kenlo, High Klassified, Dr. MaD, Vlooper and Da-P. Artgang (6524 St-Hubert), 10 p.m., $10/$15

Head to la Vitrola for a brand new edition of Bow Down: The Beyoncé Themed Party presented by Cerise sur le Gâteau and featuring DJs Lykx and Empress playing music by Queen Bey and affiliated artists all night long.
