All about that Jazz: What’s hot July 7

The Jazz Fest continues for another three days and nights. Here are our top picks for tonight:

7 p.m.: Montreal musical royalty and a crown jewel of the jazz establishment, piano master Oliver Jones, retires from the live limelight with a farewell double-bill featuring his famed trio as well  as l’Orchestre National de Jazz (Maison Symphonique, 1600 St-Urbain, $47.25-$57.25, indoor)

9 p.m.: Swing kings Big Bad Voodoo Daddy cut a rug on the TD stage. Catch them again at 11 p.m. (de Maisonneuve & Jeanne-Mance, free, outdoor)

10 p.m.: Maritime-cum-Montreal electro-rap outfit Radio Radio drop petards all over Club Soda. (1225 St-Laurent, $32.35, indoor)

10 p.m.: The rap/soul styling of Montreal’s Heartstreets and their live band return to the fest. (Turkish Airlines/CBC Stage, Clark & de Montigny, free, outdoor)

11:59 p.m.: Live rap weekly #LeCypher returns to the Savoy for a second year, with a three-night stint of room-shakingly tight boom bap from the Urban Science band. Try and catch at least one, and check back for Friday’s column and some Q&A with always-engaging bandleader Vincent Stephen-Ong. (59 Ste-Catherine E., free, indoor)
