facebookWith most eyes on POP Monteal, the big festival happening in a couple of weeks, this week proves to be not as stacked as the previous month BUT …..keep your eyes on Tuesday as one of metal’s fiercest warriors will let it reign in blood.

Thursday: Swedish black metal legends Marduk will slay at l’Astral with Rotting Christ, Carach Angren and Necronomicon. Be very afraid. 305 Ste-Catherine W., 7:30 p.m., $27/$30 [UPDATE: Marduk did not make it over the border. The show will go on without them. See refund details here.]

Saturday: Analogue Addiction keep things moving in the city with a night they’ve cooked up featuring one of Montreal’s spazziest bands Crabe with Putavelo and Ghost Vines at l’Esco. 4467 St-Denis, 9 p.m., $8

For a night of dark psych and devastating doom, you should make it to Sala to bum out on Blood Ceremony, who launch their new jammer Lord of Misrule, and Cauchemar, who also launch their doom driven beaut Chapelle Ardente. DJ sets also from Cauchmar’s Satannick, Blood Ceremony’s Sean Kennedy and DJ Dire Graves. Also projections all night from Jacob Giadu. 4848 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., $15/$20

Down at the Barfly you can catch the bar’s favourite band, Half Measures. 4062 St-Laurent, 10:30 p.m.

Sunday: Down at la Vitrola you can catch the minimal sounds of Inga Copeland with Ylang Ylang and Thurible. 4602 St-Laurent, 9:30 p.m., $10/$12

Tuesday: In case you haven’t noticed, there has definitely been quite a ’90s nostalgia scene happening, so if you’re digging on bands like Dinosaur Jr., you should definitely head down to Casa to check out Tenement with Dusk and Grosser. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $8/$10

Okay, the big gig of the week is most definitely Satan’s favourite bar band — Slayer — who will absolutely kill, with support from mighty openers Anthrax and Death Angel. True, Slayer haven’t put out a good record for a decade and a half, and with the absence of Dave Lombardo behind the traps (now spotted playing with the Misfits!) and the dearly departed Jeff Hanneman not in the fold, it would be easy to write this off — but not really. This will be pure metal mayhem. Metropolis (59 Ste-Catherine E.), 7 p.m., $71.50/$77

Wednesday: Fans of sunny ’60s psych should catch Mystic Braves, the Dream Ride and Saam at Casa. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $12/$15

If you still haven’t treated your bangover from Slayer on Tuesday, you can keep that head rolling with Scar Symmetry, Arsis, Shattered Sun, Painted in Exile and Darkaeon at Petit Campus. 57 Prince-Arthur E., 6 p.m., $20/$25
