Frank Ocean, Blonde (Boys Don’t Cry)

Frank Ocean’s most glorious talent may also be the greatest detriment to the completion of his projects. As we saw on Channel Orange’s “Sierra Leone,” Ocean has a very natural ability to turn mere sentences into angelic, soaring melodies. Although this may come in handy when beginning a song, placing the final period at the end of its sentence seems to have its struggles. On Blonde everything seems to finally click into place. Genres fall by the wayside as Ocean’s crystal clear vocal stylings pluck along nearly every emotional string, each track filled to the brim with melodic perfection and newfound confidence and maturity. 9/10 Trial Track: “Self-Control” (Donovan Burtan)
