Head to the Old Port for a free, outdoor Port Symphony sound experience from composer Herman Kolgen, whose latest work Influxx will be performed outside Pointe-à-Callière in collaboration with the Phi Centre and MUTEK. Koglen’s work incorporates the sounds of the area, from boats, train horns and wind to create a unique live experience. 350 Place Royale, 1:30 p.m., free

Join electro-pop duo Essaie Pas at the Phi Centre for a new edition of album listening series Die Pod Die, introducing the pair’s brand-new album New Path (which will be released on DFA Records on March 15) and its sci-fi undertones inspired by the writings of Philip K. As part of Montreal’s Black History Month celebrations, entertainment group FollowdaRiddim hosts the bilingual comedy night Eat & Laugh 2 at la Sala Rossa with appearances from comedians Charmaine, Chris Venditto, Dolino El Africano and Daniel Pinet plus Caribbean dance troupe West Can, plenty of Caribbean cuisine and DJ Star Q. 4848 St-Laurent, 6–9 p.m., $40/$25 in advance

The movie enthusiasts at Le Cinéclub Film Society host a special 35mm screening of John Ford’s classic Western, The Searchers from 1956, starring John Wayne as the titular searcher, a civil war veteran trying to find his kidnapped niece (played by Natalie Wood) who has come to prefer the Comanche way of life. The Suoni per Il Popolo festival presents a pair of cool Brooklyn acts and one Montreal band as part of its year-round programming: genre-hopping, style-mashing guitarist Xander Naylor and his band, experimental jazz act D.Treut and locals the Kyle Hutchins Trio. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $10/$12

Garage punks the Shake Well Brothers, Dangereens (described as “the most elegantly wasted rock n’ roll unit of the 21st century”) and freak-out orchestra the History of Gunpowder play Divan Orange. 4234 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $8
